I am writing this at 3:30 am. \u00a0 It is because I cannot sleep. \u00a0Like lots of people, I am troubled by Covid and all of the news and events surrounding it. \u00a0But there is a deeper matter.<\/p>\n
As a physician, I have spent the last 3 decades trying to keep people healthy and living longer. \u00a0 But there are still two underlying truths that I cannot change. \u00a0We are mortal….and God is sovereign. \u00a0Somehow, that message is lost in the way that Covid is being handled and discussed.<\/p>\n
The CDC, by way of the media, keeps pounding out the message that we can beat the virus with quarantines, lockdowns, avoiding each other, isolating. \u00a0But we have not made a significant impact on the spread of the virus and all the while our infection control measures have led to loneliness, anger, frustration, increased poverty, anxiety, and depression.<\/p>\n
In my office practice, personally, I see these problems creating much more significant impact on people than I see serious cases of Covid 19. \u00a0<\/span>The Godless world that we live in has nothing to offer as help for these problems.<\/p>\n I would suggest that what we really need is different. \u00a0We were created to be together, to look out for others, to love each other. \u00a0We are the most unhappy when we put ourselves first and spend all of our energy trying to save and protect our own selves. \u00a0I am not suggesting that we act foolishly. \u00a0The virus is not a hoax and we should not be reckless in our movements. \u00a0 However, in light of the fact that we are mortal and God is sovereign, we should be doing two things differently.<\/p>\n Instead of closing churches, \u00a0we should be opening church up even more for much needed days of repentance and prayer.\u00a0 Whatever happened to calling for days of prayer in times of crisis? \u00a0<\/span>This is what God\u2019s people have done in the past during their hour of need.<\/p>\n Secondly, while we are waiting \u00a0on science to come up with a \u201cfix\u201d, we must remember that\u00a0<\/span>science is not perfect. \u00a0Science gets things wrong all the time.\u00a0 Science is a constantly changing body of ideas. \u00a0<\/span>\u00a0In fact many times today\u2019s fact gradually becomes tomorrow\u2019s mishap. \u00a0We have leaders who act like they know what is best and issue one edict after another. \u00a0They are trying to \u201cfollow the science\u201d and change their minds constantly.\u00a0 <\/span>This is why what we need is the perfect, all wise, all loving, God who created the world. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Covid is an infectious disease. \u00a0It is behaving like a lot of other infectious diseases. \u00a0It can be deadly, as can other infectious diseases. \u00a0We should wash our hands. \u00a0We should not go to work sick. \u00a0We should sterilize surfaces. \u00a0We should develop a vaccine. \u00a0But we are sinful men and women, who live in a fallen world and Covid is just one more thing.<\/p>\n We are mortal and we are all going to die. \u00a0God is sovereign. \u00a0God calls us to himself. \u00a0I for one, want to live forever with Him. \u00a0That can start here on earth, thank God. \u00a0I am so grateful that my creator loved me enough to send His Son to die for my sins. \u00a0I am so grateful that He is sovereign and not the public officials. \u00a0We need leaders who are humble and lead us back to God who knows all things. \u00a0All science is just the searching out of what God already knows. \u00a0Ignoring God is what will really kill us and make us miserable, not Covid<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I am writing this at 3:30 am. \u00a0 It is because I cannot sleep. \u00a0Like lots of people, I am troubled by Covid and all of the news and events surrounding it. \u00a0But there is a deeper matter.
