Today I went on a college tour. \u00a0As this was for my 4th and youngest child, I have lost count of how many college tours I have been on. \u00a0I realized something as I sat listening this morning – all of the “welcome to this \u00a0school” talks are almost identical. \u00a0All admission officers say the same things. \u00a0If \u00a0all you did was listen to that part of the tour, you could not tell where you were. \u00a0So for anyone embarking on a similar endeavor, I have listed a few questions you might want to ask yourself about a school your son or daughter is thinking about attending.<\/p>\n
1. \u00a0If it is a small school, does the community support it? \u00a0Is it truly a college town?<\/p>\n
2. \u00a0How many students continue to live on campus past the first year?<\/p>\n
3. \u00a0What is dorm life like?<\/p>\n
4. \u00a0How is the food?<\/p>\n
5. \u00a0What percentage of students study abroad?<\/p>\n
6. How many states or countries are represented in the student body?<\/p>\n
7. \u00a0What percentage of students participate in Greek life?<\/p>\n
8. \u00a0What clubs are on campus? \u00a0Intramural sports?<\/p>\n
9. \u00a0Is there an honor system?<\/p>\n
10. \u00a0 Are classes taught by professors only or teaching assistants?<\/p>\n
11. \u00a0Finally, google Successful “school of choice” graduates to see if there are any highly successful or famous graduates. \u00a0Schools will always say that their stats are great. \u00a0This morning they said that 97% of last year’s grads were employed, in grad school, or volunteering or doing other useful activities! \u00a0What does that mean?<\/p>\n
