Some studies are good, but some are done in hopes of promoting <span style=\"-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;\">specific classes of food, so bias<\/span><span style=\"-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;\">\u00a0and confusion abound. \u00a0It is helpful to know some simple guidelines that apply to most everyone&#8230;.at least to start with. \u00a0So that is where I\u2019ll start! \u00a0And may 2020 be a year of increasing good health!<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;\">PRINCIPLE # 1<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>NOT ALL FOOD IS CREATED EQUAL<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This principle used to be less important simply because in past centuries there were not so many artificial or altered foods available. \u00a0Heavily processed food is a modern phenomenon. \u00a0In general, the less processed a food is and the closer it is to its natural state, the more health benefits it can give.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>For example, an apple is healthier than apple juice simply because it is less processed and still retains its fiber which allows the apple\u2019s sugar to be absorbed more slowly, avoiding harmful rises in blood sugar.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>A raw potato has benefits lost in cooking. \u00a0But, of course a baked potato is superior to a potato chip or French fry. \u00a0A raw carrot is superior to a cooked carrot which is superior to a candied carrot&#8230;.you get the drift!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>So raw and natural foods are great, and one goal should be to make them a larger percentage of one\u2019s diet. \u00a0That is a good place to start! \u00a0Changing to a healthier diet is a process.
