America’s trust in her government may be on the cusp of disintegrating! \u00a0Crispin Sartwell, a philosophy professor at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa. says that “The basic problem isn’t that people don’t trust institutions, but that the institutions aren’t trustworthy.” \u00a0Amen to that! \u00a0But neither is much of the media. \u00a0Or advertisements. \u00a0Or churches. \u00a0Or schools.<\/p>\n

The downward slide toward allowing just a “facade of truth” has been a long one. \u00a0Think about it. \u00a0As a society, we have decided that truth is relative. \u00a0My truth may not be your truth. \u00a0But what you believe is equal to what I believe, regardless of whether or not either of our beliefs are true. How crazy is that?<\/p>\n

No longer do we delve deep into a subject, searching honestly for the truth of a matter. \u00a0It is more important to uphold what is profitable, self-serving, politically expedient, or advantageous. \u00a0Lying for the greater good has become a normative behavior. \u00a0We lie to avoid hurting others. We lie to sell something. \u00a0We lie to avoid exposing our sins. \u00a0We lie to cover our previous lies. \u00a0 You often cannot believe your neighbor or friend or work associate. \u00a0So if everyone has become a liar (and there are not little lies and big lies…..just lies), it is of course folly to believe an institution made up of liars.<\/p>\n

Whatever happened to hunger for real truth? \u00a0Society tells us there is no such thing, but believing that leads to hopelessness. \u00a0 Fortunately, truth has a way of forcing itself to the surface eventually. \u00a0Truth is real. \u00a0There is right and there is wrong. \u00a0In the end truth will win. \u00a0 Relativism may ruin America, but it will not last forever. \u00a0I just hope that it dies before our country does.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
