\u00a0I ponder this in the middle of the night a lot. \u00a0(It would help if someone would discover a cure for snoring husbands!) \u00a0I am not alone, however, in my sleeplessness. \u00a0I decided to make a list of things that sometimes help. \u00a0So if you are not one of the 2% of Sleepless Elite who genetically only need about 3 hours a night, try this&#8230;..<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0A COLD room &#8211; core body temperature needs to decrease 2-3 degrees \u00a0to initiate sleep<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div><\/div>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>\u00a0Turn off all light &#8211; even flipping your cell phone over, especially if incoming messages light your phone.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div><\/div>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>\u00a0Soft music may help, but use a timer so an inconsistency in the noise won&#8217;t reawaken you<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div><\/div>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>\u00a0A medium firm mattress &#8211; too soft and too firm are both problems. \u00a0Also, a mattress is really only good for about 10 years \u00a0 \u00a0 before it starts to break down. \u00a0Of course, your mattress may last longer if you don&#8217;t sleep as much!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div><\/div>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>\u00a0 If you cannot sleep and have been lying awake for an hour, get up and do a simple chore or two, and then try again<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div><\/div>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li>\u00a0 Avoid caffeine (a no brainer)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div><\/div>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li>\u00a0 Finally, Thanksgiving is coming, and with it turkey! \u00a0Turkey has tryptophan, an amino acid that promotes melatonin \u00a0 production \u00a0and melatonin\u00a0 promotes sleep!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Alright, I have done my &#8220;middle of the night&#8221; chore. \u00a0Time to try and sleep again&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s almost 2 AM and I am AWAKE! \u00a0Why is sleep so elusive sometimes?
